Archaeological Field School2024-01-23T10:12:39-06:00

Overview

The Center for Big Bend Studies coordinates an Archaeological Field School for graduate and undergraduate students who have the chance to work side by side with professional archaeologists. This hands-on approach to teaching helps students improve their skills in cutting-edge field methods, including mapping, profiling, survey, and excavation.

The field work is augmented with an intensive program of guest lectures, field trips, discussions, and laboratory work. Field trips are scheduled to some of the richest archaeological sites in the region.

The Costs

Tuition and fees are based on the costs of six semester credit hours for Sul Ross State University and will differ for Texas residents and non-residents. (Costs are subject to change, based on changes in state tuition and fee charges.) The 2024 summer tuition fee is $1,884.52. A field school program fee will also be charged to cover the cost of prepared meals, transportation to and from the ranch and all lab supplies and equipment. The 2024 program fee is $1,000.

Class Size and Registration

The next field school is scheduled for summer 2024. Class size is limited to 10 students. See here for more details on the 2024 field school.
