Overview

The Center for Big Bend Studies coordinates an Archaeological Field School for graduate and undergraduate students who have the chance to work side by side with professional archaeologists. This hands-on approach to teaching helps students improve their skills in both traditional and cutting-edge field methods, including GIS mapping, profiling, pedestrian survey, and excavation.

Cost

Tuition and fees are based on the costs of six semester credit hours for Sul Ross State University and will differ for Texas residents and non-residents. The 2025 summer resident tuition fee is $1,983.14. A field school program fee will also be charged to cover the cost of prepared meals, transportation to and from the ranch and all lab supplies and equipment. The 2024 program fee is $600.
