he CBBS is proud to announce that the Big Bend National Park Historic Preservation project for 2021 is complete! After a grueling seven weeks of work (consisting of 10-hour workdays), repairs to the Alvino and Dorgan houses are finished. In partnership with Big Bend National Park, CBBS senior project archeologist David Keller along with Joey Benton, Luis Madrid, Rosalio Sanchez, Rene Sanchez, Luis Sanchez and Tim Guillen of Silla Marfa made approximately 1,400 adobe bricks, rebuilt the parapet, patched and mud plastered the historic Alvino house, and stabilized the iconic Dorgan house—all conducted in accordance with the Secretary of Interior’s standards for historic preservation. The work represents the most extensive repairs either structure has received in nearly 30 years.
